Probability and Statistics for Engineers and Scientists(Math 3351)

Here is the syllabus.

Test one will be Thursday, October 23, bring a calculator. By popular demand here are the quiz from Sep 11 and quiz from Sep 25. Now you can find the answer key to the first midterm.

Here is a sheet giving formulas for confidence intervals.

Test two will be Tuesday, December 9. Bring a calculator. Here are the in-class review problems worked out in painful detail! Here you can find the answer key to the second test.

In order to do statistics on anything but toy examples, we will need to use a computer. However learning to use a statistical package in addition to learning probability and statistics can be daunting. As a compromise, we will be doing our calculations with a spreadsheet, which is not the best tool for statistical calculations but which will suffice (with a little effort) for our purposes and which everyone already knows how to use. Most of you will have some flavor of Microsoft Excel already on your computers, and it should be installed on computers in the Math Learning Center or elsewhere on campus. In the event that you don't have Excel and would prefer not to purchase it, OpenOffice is a more than acceptable substitute.
