Text: Introduction to Ordinary Differential Equations (4e), Shepley L. Ross (Wiley).
Prerequisites: You may enroll in Math 3305 if you have completed Calculus II (MATH 2414).
Course Description: This course is a study of ordinary differential equations, with emphasis given to equations of the first order, linear equations, and solution by series.
Make-Up Policy: If you must miss class for a legitimate reason, such as participation in a university activity, hospitalization, etc., I will grant a make-up for any missed work, provided that I am given sufficient notice of said absence and satisfactory evidence that it is legitimate. Oversleeping, for example, does not constitute a legitimate absence. If you’re not sure, ask.
Assessment: Your grade for this course will be based on homework, quizzes, two in-class exams, a project, and a final examination.
Tentatively, I expect the grade distribution to be as follows:
In-class exams (2 @20% each): 40%
Homework 10%
Quizzes 10%
Final project 20%
Final examination 30%
Disability Statement: If you have a disability, including a learning disability, for which you request an accommodation, please contact Ida MacDonald in the Disability Support Services offices so that appropriate arrangements may be made. In accordance with federal law, a student requesting accommodation must provide documentation of his/her disability to the Disability Support Services counselor. For more information, call or visit the Student Services Centre, Room 111 in the University Centre. The telephone number is 566.7079 (TDD 565.5579).
Social Security Statement: It is the policy of The University of Texas at Tyler to protect the confidential nature of social security numbers. The University has changed its computer programming so that all students have an identification number.
Grade Replacement: If you are repeating this course for a grade replacement, you must file an intent to receive grade forgiveness with the registrar by the 12th day of class. Failure to file an intent to use grade forgiveness will result in both the original and repeated grade being used to calculate your overall grape point average. A student will receive grade forgiveness (grade replacement) for only three (undergraduate student) or two (graduate student) course repeats during his/her career at UT Tyler. (2006-08 Catalog, p. 35)
